In view of global crisis in drinking water sector, India too is facing challenges in providing safe drinking water to all, especially rural communities. Severe scarcity of drinking water, deteriorating water quality, depleting groundwater resources on one hand, and floods and surface water logging at the other has aggravated the situation further. The Tata Water Mission is a programme initiated by the Tata Trusts to tackle the water crisis with a multi-pronged approach. Under the programme, the Trusts support innovative initiatives that seek solutions to water-related issues.
The three core areas under innovation that the programme supports are technology innovations, innovative financing models and innovative behavioral change communication (BCC) models. The programme has been implemented in eight states including Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha, through a multi-stakeholder partnership model.
